Croatians are now on non-visa regime with Ukraine! According to the press-service of the president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, an act that liquidates the visa regime for Croatians will come into effect starting with the 1st of June, 2012. The term of stay, similar to that for other non-visa citizens, is limited to 90 days. Prolongation is available for a period not exceeding 180 days on certain conditions. The president's decision was evidently based on the approaching Euro-2012, as Croatia was the only country qualified for the tournament that still had a visa regime with Ukraine. According to the OVIR news service, Croatia has a policy of implementing non-visa regime to Ukrainians for the period of touristic activity - from the 1st of April till the 31st of October.

Changes were made to the order of issuing visas to foreigners. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs implemented the "Decree about changes to the instructions of the order of issuing visas to foreigners and persons without citizenship for entrance to Ukraine and transit through its territory" that gained force on the 27th of March, 2012.
The most important changes to the entry rules include the broadening of basis for visa denial. Some of the newly introduced reasons for visa denial are: absence of medical insurance and the lack of declared finances for the period of stay in Ukraine. The list of visa codes was extended and detailed by this decree. The new instruction includes a list of countries, citizens of which are to be issued visas directly on the territory of these countries through the consular services of Ukraine. 96 countries are included in the list that obliges its citizens to go through an interview and analyses by the Ukrainian Security Service if they wish to obtain a visa to Ukraine. Please note that business and personal visa invitations are subject to state registration at the OVIR.

Under the new law, which among other things regulates registration of foreigners on the territory of Ukraine, it is essential to get “entry” and “departure” stamps, with dates, in passports or other travel documents every time one crosses the border. Make sure that the border control officer put one in your passport! The absence of such stamp could cause multiple problems next time a bearer of such document crosses the border of Ukraine.

Reminder! Citizens of these countries can visit Ukraine without a visa for periods up to 90 days, but for a period of no more than 180 days with a valid passport:
| Andorra Austria Belgium Canada Cuba Cyprus Czech Republic Denmark Estonia Finland France |
Georgia Germany Greece Hungary Iceland Ireland Italy Japan Kazakhstan Korea (South) Kyrgyzstan |
Latvia Liechtenstein Lithuania Luxembourg Malta Monaco Mongolia Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal |
Russia San Marino Slovakia Slovenia Spain Sweden Switzerland Tajikistan Vatican City United Kingdom United States Uzbekistan |
Kindly note, Australia and New Zealand are not on this list.
Citizens of the abovementioned countries can stay on Ukrainian territory for up to 90 days within any 180-day period without a visa. For longer stays a visa will be required. For a while there was no 180 day obligation, so foreigners could easily cross the Ukrainian border every 90 days and avoid getting a visa. Under the new legislation, in force since summer of 2011, this is impossible. Therefore, if you intend to stay in Ukraine for more than 90 days out of 180, you will need to get a visa.
